| Chao-Tian Temple in Beigang has been built for more than 300 hundred years. The principle of the temple is to propagate Matzu’s merciful aspiration to relieve people from hardships. | Medical treatment |
In 1936, a hospital for the poor people was founded. Professional doctors provided service to people. Poor people wouldn’t have to be charged.
Matzu Hospital was projected to found in 1977 in order to offer more service to the soceity, and was founded in November, 1985. It became the most standard In the area of Chianan.
In 1984, the temple discussed with China Medical College about founding a medical school in Beigang to nourish more medical professionals. In 1985, the teaching building, library and dorm were founded. The construction was completed in 1986. China Medical College in Beigang was officially founded, and the college is in charge of managing Matzu Hospital. The hospital is not only a medical institution but also academic. |

| Culture, education and art |
Exhibit of folk lanterns starts on Jan. 15th on lunar calendar, and lasts for about a month. In alliance with organizations and schools. It appeals to lots of visitors every year.
In 1981, the Chinese Orchestra was founded. Professionals were invited to instruct the members being fond of Chinese instruments. The orchestra has been relatively standard.
In December, 1972, the monthly journal “Shengnuchunchiou” was published to propagate religious culture and Matzu’s aspiration.
In 1989, the committee chairman of Chao-Tian Temple, the resident Chiahu Chen and other enthusiastic youths founded “Bengang Matzu Foundation of Culture and Education” to manage cultural and educational activities. |
